Lately...

It has been several weeks since our last post. Not very good for a new blog, but I will fill you in on what has been going on at High Cotton.
As you drive through the farm you can tell that fall is quickly approaching. The cooler temperatures are not the only hint. The corn is completely mature and browned out. It is very apparent that all the corn loving critters are enjoying it; deer, coon, crows, coyote, and dove. Speaking of dove; they are another sign of the coming fall. Dove season in Tennessee always opens September 1st; which everyone in the south knows that the first weekend in September is also the opening for SEC football. What says fall better than a dove shoot and a football game? Our dove field has already been burned down and is loaded full of birds. Now if they will just stick around until September 1st.
We are also prepping all of our fall food plots. If you have not bush-hogged and sprayed them yet, you are behind. All of our fall food plots are being converted over to Whitetail Institute products. This includes Alpha- Rack Plus, Chicory Plus, Forage Oats, Pure Attraction, and for the early bow plots Secret Spot. We are also planting a lot of the Imperial Whitetail clover this year so that we can offer the deer a food source 365 days a year.
We are still running our trail cameras, which is a chore on its own. Starting this weekend we will be running surveys to get a better inventory on each farm which is really chore. We can have as many as thirty cameras running at one time.
The deer antler growth is almost finished which means that bow season will soon be here. For those of you that need the practice, it is time to get your bow out.
